Position and Salary
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for an exempt, full time,Language Access Coordinator in the Racial Equity Unit. This position is located in Olympia, with a possible Seattle option, and is not union-represented.

Annual Salary: $90,180.
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity.

In addition to the base pay salary, the following types of assignment pay may be applied:

  • Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
  • Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Position Description
This position will collaborate with AGO divisions to assess current and emerging language access needs to better support those divisions’ outreach efforts, as well as the legal communication with pro se litigants and when responding to constituents, to meet the legal requirements to communicate using the language of choice of the individuals receiving the information. This position will also work with other Racial Equity Unit analysts to support the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the agency, including its commitment to being an anti-racist agency..Essential functions of this position include:

  • Support & Collaboration: Collaborate with all AGO divisions to assess current and emerging language access needs, identify gaps in existing policies or capactiy, and provide technical assistance tailored to divisions with varying levels of language access experience and infrastructure. Identify and support the division-level Language Access Outreach Coordinators. Research legal and policy standards in language access. Develop standardized procedures to support divisions in identifying, requesting, and responding to language access needs. Work with the Public Affairs Unit and manage document review and translation processes for Administrative Division documents. In collaboration with the Human Resource Office’s Training & Development Team, coordinate training and presentations on the Language Access Policy and procedures. Work with AGO divisions to establish and track division goals and metrics that align with the AGO Racial Equity Strategic Plan.
  • Contract & Language Service Provider Coordination:Coordinate with the Financial Services Division’s Grants & Contracts Unit and DES statewide language access contracts to support divisions in the effective use of existing contracts. Serve as the central escalation point and subject matter resource for divisions on vendor-related issues, including service quality concerns, contract interpretation, and compliance questions. Develop internal quality assurance guidance and monitoring processes for AGO use of language access services, consistent with DES statewide contract standards.
  • Language Access Policy Review & Planning:Serve as Co-Chairof the Language Access Committee. Conduct research on the AGO's language access landscape. On an annual basis, meet with the Committee to share the findings. Use the findings to determine ongoing needs and make recommendations to update the Language Access Policy or procedures.

  • Project Management: Ensures the project or program goals, purpose, and criteria for success are clearly defined. Clarifies the related roles and responsibilities, deliverables, milestones, limits for independent decision-making, and needs and desires of the primary customers.


Preferred Qualifications/Competencies

Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in language access programs, translation/interpretation services, equity-focused initiatives with a focus on community engagement.
AND
Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in language access programs, translation/interpretation services, equity-focused initiatives with a focus on community engagement. A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in communications, public administration, public policy, linguistics, community engagement, or related field may substitute for two years of experience.

Highly competitive candidates will have demonstrated experience in:

  • Working with and/or preparing content for communities with varied language access needs, including communities which are multilingual.
  • The legal field and/or state government.
