This position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and performing landscaping duties at various locations throughout the county. General work involves mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, pruning/shearing, debris/trash removal, and maintenance of shrubs, trees, plants and turf grass in surrounding areas. Work may also encompass new plant installations/transplanting, laying sod, sowing seed, planting annuals, spreading salt/removing ice & snow, installing mulch and/or pine straw, pulling weeds, flower bed maintenance, athletic field maintenance, and plant cultivation. Position is expected to operate small to medium size equipment to include commercial walk behind mowers, weed trimmers, stick/bed edgers, leaf blowers, backpack sprayers, and all hand tools such as rakes, shovels, brooms, pickers, etc. in the performance of duties. Work is performed in accordance with instructions from the Landscaping Dept. Manager and/or Operations Manager; the position reports to a Grounds Maintenance Technician II (Foreman Crew Leader) for guidance and direction.
Employees are subject to hazards associated with working in outside environments, extreme hot and cold weather, precipitation, and exposure to dust, loud noises, odors, vibrations, machinery and hazardous toxic fumes, oils, gases, chemicals, or flammable liquids.

Must be able to perform tasks that involve regular, and at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work.
Must be able to perform work typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials from 20-100 pounds.
Must be able to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, and odors.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
General knowledge of grounds keeping and landscape equipment, parts, and supplies; Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees; Working knowledge of plant maintenance procedures used in landscape installation and grounds maintenance; Working knowledge of equipment and specialized tools used in landscape work; Ability to observe plants and plant problems; Ability to assess condition and health of plants; Ability to operate light to medium equipment; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; Ability to develop good working relationships with co-workers.
OSHA Regulations/Requirements
Workers are required to have the following items for work:
Steel-Toed Boots - Protective footwear must comply with American National Standards Institute standard ANSI Z41-1991;
Safety Glasses - ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2010, Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices.
Workers are also advised to bring a pair of work gloves, work pants, and a plain shirt with no writing on it with them when they report for work.
