Job Title: Press Operator / General Laborer
Job Description

This role operates and leads all aspects of press line production, including machine changeovers, start-up, running, and shut-down in a clean, temperature-controlled packaging and printing facility. The press operator ensures that all jobs run to precise customer, manufacturing, and print specifications while supporting a strong safety culture and world-class manufacturing practices. The position also involves directing and training press assistants, maintaining accurate production documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation of press lines, including machine changeovers, start-up, running, and shut-down.
  • Run all jobs in strict accordance with customer specifications, manufacturing specifications, print specifications, color folders, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support operations in achieving world-class performance, with a strong focus on safety and product safety requirements.
  • Ensure all required paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and on time, including production reports, job verification sheets, ink usage sheets, QA reports, roll tickets with all flags recorded, S.O.C. sheets, and other assigned forms.
  • Work closely with and direct the press assistant and pit crew to minimize job changeover time and production downtime.
  • Train and guide the press assistant to become efficient in all required duties as defined in each level of the assistant training matrix within expected timeframes.
  • Operate production and packaging machinery, including large printing presses and lamination equipment, using appropriate hand tools as needed.
  • Enter production and quality data into computer systems accurately and maintain records as required.
  • Follow and support all 5S and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives, including cross-training and moving to where work is needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision or management.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience as a machine operator, preferably in production, packaging, or lamination environments.
  • Ability to operate production machinery, including presses and lamination equipment, and use hand tools safely.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and remain on your feet for the entire shift.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to enter data accurately into computer systems and follow documented procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure adherence to specifications and completion of all required paperwork.
  • Ability to function independently while also working effectively within a team.
  • Commitment to safety, product safety, and compliance with 5S and WCM practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with press operations, lamination, or packaging in a manufacturing setting is highly beneficial.
  • Comfort working around large printing presses and adhesive-related odors.
  • Willingness to learn and complete training on specific machinery and processes.
  • Ability to follow a structured training matrix and help train others in defined tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage documentation and multiple tasks during a shift.
  • Reliability and flexibility to support a 4-day work week with the potential for occasional 5th day shifts.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility that prints on foil and packaging materials for pharmaceutical products. The environment features large printing presses and lamination equipment, requiring comfort working around industrial machinery and the presence of an adhesive smell throughout the facility. Team members collaborate closely but also perform tasks independently. The standard schedule consists of 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with a typical 4-day work week and only occasional need for a 5th day. Work involves standing for the entire shift, moving around the production floor, and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed, while following all safety and cleanliness standards.

The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
