Works under the direction of the Solid Waste and Recycling & Collections Supervisor or Truck Driver Team Leader. Responsible for picking up garbage and/or recycle on assigned routes and placing it in the collection vehicle for disposal, and performing other assigned tasks.
Picks up garbage on assigned routes in residential and commercial areas
Places garbage in the truck for disposal and ensure that garbage is not scattered on customer property or streets
Handles garbage cans in a manner that will ensure customer property is not damaged
Return and place cans in accordance with department procedures
Represents the department and the City of Florence in a friendly, tactful, and courteous manner
Reports customer complaints to the truck driver
Assists in unloading trucks at the landfill, cleaning and sanitizing vehicles, and performing limited vehicle maintenance
Performs other assigned duties: Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city
Must have a valid driver's license.
Ability to follow instructions and get along with fellow employees and customers
Ability to handle customer complaints in a tactful and courteous manner
Ability to drive pickup trucks
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations that apply to working around vehicles and equipment
Physical Demands (with or without accommodation):
History of good work attendance
Ability to hang on the back of the collection vehicle
Ability to work under stressful situations
Ability to walk at a rapid pace from house to house for several hours at a time
Ability to work with constant exposure to heat, cold, dampness, and noise
Ability to stoop, bend, and lift on a regular basis up to 50 pounds (more on occasion)
Ability to work in and around moving traffic
Equipment/Tools Used:
Carts lift
Cleaning equipment (pressure washer, water hose, brushes, etc.)
Pick-up truck
