Lab Technicians on our Engineering team play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of cutting-edge welding and plasma cutting systems within the Commercial Solutions Division of Miller Electric. As a key member of the engineering department, you’ll be responsible for crucial fabrication, troubleshooting, and testing operations that help bring our ideas to life.
What you will do and impact:

  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary team of Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Welding engineers to develop new products from original concept prototypes to full production.
  • Support the New Product Development process by conducting a diverse range of mechanical and electrical engineering qualification tests including: electrical output characterization, thermal performance, mechanical durability, dielectric strength, ingress protection, environmental protection, transportation & packaging qualification, and PCB qualification.
  • Sustain existing product lifecycles by qualifying alternative mechanical and electrical parts to support end-of-life parts, cost reductions, and alternative sourcing efforts.
  • Troubleshoot production test equipment, develop manufacturing test documentation, analyze manufacturing line issues, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and Materials groups.
  • Work closely with the Product Certification Manager to create and revise Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) certification reports, including CSA, CE, CCC, ETL, NOM, etc.
  • Foster a safety-focused culture within the laboratory environment.

  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills: ability to write accurate and detailed documentation is expected.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment and as an individual contributor with minimum supervision.
  • Possess solid understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel (capable of creating graphs).
  • Committed to working safely with electricity, hand tools, power tools, pneumatics, and electromechanical equipment.

Other Qualifications:

  • Currently possess or working toward a two-year technical degree in Electronics, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in engineering product development and/or support is preferred.
  • Familiarity and comfort with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, multimeters, and oscilloscopes. Sheet metal and plastic fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Ability to provide program support for PLC or LabView based applications is a plus.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel up to 5% may be required.
  • Position requires bending, sitting, squatting, climbing, and standing.
