Job Title: Automated Kit Production Associate (Kitter) – Night Shift

Job Description

Join a high-volume automated kit production team that builds clinical trial, healthcare, and human sample collection kits, including testing kits. In this role, you work across multiple stations to pick, assemble, and pack kits using an automated system. The work is simple, repetitive, and highly process-driven, requiring strong attention to detail, comfort with standing for extended periods, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate within the Automated Kit Production department to build kits for clinical trials, sample collection, testing, and other human sample collection needs.
  • Work in the Kit Cell (Popular Pick) station by standing at an individual workstation surrounded by bins and a computer screen that displays orders.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to locate items indicated by a lighted bin, pick the correct components, and place them into the appropriate kit box.
  • Carefully label completed kit boxes in the correct area and place them on the rolling conveyor to send them to the packing area.
  • Work in the PACK station to receive totes from the automated conveyor system, verify that the correct kits are in each tote, and transfer kits from tote to shipping box.
  • Label shipping boxes accurately and direct them to the appropriate shipping line (e.g., UPS, FedEx).
  • Perform mezzanine tasks such as sitting near the labeling line to pack instruction manuals or assembling small batch custom orders by hand at a seated workstation.
  • Maintain high quality and pace while performing repetitive tasks, ensuring accuracy in counts, labels, and kit components.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and quality guidelines to ensure kits meet required specifications.
  • Participate in cross-training across 5–6 different roles within the automation department over time to support flexible staffing and rotation.
  • Adhere strictly to safety, cleanliness, and organizational standards in a production environment.
  • Use basic computer skills to navigate order screens, confirm tasks, and complete required steps in the automated system.
  • Manage physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, occasional lifting, and working at a consistent production pace.
  • Respect all policies regarding phone usage, food and drink, and personal conduct on the production floor.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production goals and support a smooth, efficient workflow.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to stand on your feet for 12-hour shifts, especially during training and on some production days.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-production environment, ideally while on your feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed, with team lifting used for items over 50 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, labeling, and packing of kit components.
  • Comfort performing repetitive, highly structured tasks consistently throughout a shift.
  • Basic computer skills to follow on-screen instructions and interact with automated systems.
  • Reliability and willingness to work a 12-hour night shift on a rotating 2/2/3 schedule.
  • Ability to work effectively in a noisy production environment with continuous equipment noise.
  • Commitment to following safety rules, quality procedures, and production guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in packing, production, assembly, or healthcare-related assembly is helpful.
  • Experience in kit production or similar fulfillment operations is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with conveyor systems and automated order-picking technology.
  • Ability to adapt to rotation between standing and seated tasks throughout the shift.
  • Willingness to learn multiple roles across the automation department and participate in cross-training.
  • Self-motivation to maintain focus and productivity in a repetitive, routine work environment.

Why Work Here?

This role offers a highly structured work schedule with built-in overtime, generous differentials for night and weekend work, and a comprehensive benefits package upon conversion to full-time employment. Employees receive holiday pay with additional premium pay, access to a wide range of insurance options, fitness reimbursement programs, 401(k) contribution and matching, and an employee stock purchase plan with discounted shares. The organization supports long-term financial and personal well-being through substantial paid time off, HSA and FSA options, and a rewards program that recognizes outstanding performance and service. Team members also benefit from an employee assistance program, tuition reimbursement, and even free tuition opportunities for selected life science-related degrees, creating a strong pathway for career and educational growth.

Work Environment

The position is on a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. night shift with a 2/2/3 rotating schedule, providing two paid 20-minute breaks and one paid 30-minute lunch per shift. The schedule typically results in about 42 hours per week, with approximately two hours of built-in overtime each week. Over the long term, kit builders rotate between different jobs every three hours, with some days involving up to 12 hours of standing and other days offering more seated work; a typical balance over time is roughly six hours standing and six hours sitting per shift. The production area is very clean, organized, and temperature-controlled at approximately 70 degrees or below. The environment includes conveyors and automated equipment but no heavy machinery, resulting in a constant humming noise similar to a large vacuum. Team members must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and many choose to wear long sleeves due to the cooler temperature. Headphones are permitted in the pick cells and throughout automated kit production, but only one earbud may be used at a time. Phones are allowed in pockets for audio only; checking messages, calls, or using the device on the floor is prohibited and subject to strict enforcement. Food is not allowed on the floor, and drinks must have a sealable lid. The facility operates like a small production plant focused on hand assembly, with a hot food cafeteria available during the day shift. The work is repetitive and production-driven, suited for individuals who prefer structured tasks in a steady, process-oriented environment.
