Key Account Manager

The Key Account Manager is responsible for managing current business as well as developing new business opportunities with General Motors (GM). This position will serve as the Global Lead for GM business and strategy execution, taking ownership of global and domestic sales business.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage existing global and domestic business for GM (North America, Asia, and South America)
  • Create strategy around customer roadmap to identify HMI opportunities as well as strategies to add to Marquardt’s product range based on capabilities in new technology development areas
  • Execute strategic plans to ensure long-term growth in both existing markets and potential new markets
  • Build a long-term relationship with GM, including key personnel in engineering, R&D, manufacturing and purchasing
  • Respond to local requests for quotes, providing detailed price quotes and breakdowns on prospective business opportunities
  • Lead RFQ process through first discussions with customer through business award
  • Maintain customer roadmap and information in CRM
  • Coordinate global requests for quotes with account managers in Italy and China and review submissions
  • Coordinate price calculations and technical reviews for customers
  • Negotiate and track pricing changes
  • Identify and communicate customer product and technology requirements to appropriate Marquardt personnel
  • Develop and maintain various strategic growth metrics
  • Achieve assigned sales, account development, and other targets
  • Manage customer sales forecasting and customer complaint topic
  • Support finance group with customer payment topics and accounts receivable issues
  • Lead the customer scorecard review and improvement discussions by working with cross-functional teams to support the required applications and achieve high scorecard ratings
  • Work with internal cross-functional engineering and innovation team, as well as the customer regarding new product innovations and account opportunities
  • Coordinate tooling in GM system to ensure proper on time payment


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (non-technical degrees will be considered along with proven technical understanding and experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in components and systems sales working with GM as a customer
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and quoting cost elements (cost breakdown form)
  • Advanced verbal communication skills, including group presentation, negotiation, and influencing
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft office and SAP (preferred)
  • Advanced management skills, including planning and organization, decision-making, problem solving, and project management
  • Advanced knowledge of sales and closing techniques
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, distributors, sales representatives, managers, employees, and the public
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports and other documents
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbal and written instructions
