Kennel Technician (Part-time)

As a Kennel Technician with the City of Sugar Land Animal Services, you will play a vital role in protecting the health, safety, and well-being of animals in our care. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and nurturing environment within the Animal Services facility, ensuring each animal receives attentive care in a professional and compassionate setting. • Responsible for the feeding, walking, bathing, and exercising of all sugar land animals in the Shelter’s care.
• Assist the veterinary technician with administration of medications indicated by the Veterinarian.
• Maintain the shelter by performing tasks including, sweeping, and mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, and checking equipment and supplies.
• Be available on weekends and holidays to fill in at the shelter.
• Assist members of staff with handling, restraining and comforting animals as animals are brought in by visitors or during daily activities.
• Complete and maintain required paperwork for incidents and daily activities.
• Provide exceptional customer service to the public by answering inquires over the phone or in person, directing telephone calls, receiving paperwork and entering information into computer system (includes calls, bite cases, animal impounds, owner reclaims, etc.).
• Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.

Formal Education:

• High School or GED Certificate required.

Relatable Work Experience:

• Preferably, at least one year of progressively responsible experience working with animals.
• Municipal Experience is preferred.

Training (License and/or Certification):

• Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License.
