Position Overview
We are seeking a Junior SQL Technical Support professional to join our team in Knoxville, TN. This role is ideal for an early‑career SQL professional who is highly professional, detail-oriented, and experienced working within Microsoft-based environments. The position supports database operations, troubleshooting, and data requests in a fast-paced, structured organization similar to a financial services or enterprise environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Database Maintenance & Monitoring
- Support Microsoft SQL Server environments, including tables, schemas, indexes, and basic performance monitoring
- Review monitoring tools and respond to alerts such as high CPU usage, locked sessions, or failed jobs
- Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Act as first-line support for SQL and database-related issues
- Troubleshoot data anomalies, access issues, and slow-running queries
- Support application teams with database-related requests and incidents
- Query Development & Optimization
- Write, debug, and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures
- Execute scripts to update, validate, or extract data for reporting purposes
- Data Backup & Recovery Support
- Assist with execution of database backups
- Follow established recovery and data protection procedures
- Documentation & Compliance
- Create and maintain technical documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Adhere to organizational standards and Microsoft security and technology best practices
- Collaboration
- Work closely with developers, analysts, and system administrators to support application deployments and data integrations
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server preferred)
- Experience working with Microsoft technologies and standards(Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft 365, Excel, Teams, etc.)
- Basic understanding of query performance tuning and execution plans
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- High level of professionalism and clear communication skills
- Ability to work onsite 3 days per week in Knoxville
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related technical field
- Exposure to scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
- Experience working in a ticket-based support or production environment
- Familiarity with reporting or data extraction requests
