Junior Research Technician Position Description Position Title: Junior Research Technician in TICRO Bioservices Reports To: Shelton Bradrick, Ph.D. Status: Non-Exempt Job Type: Full- time Supervises: N/A Location: Saranac Lake, NY The Team: TICRO Bioservices at Trudeau Institute provides high quality translational research studies to early preclinical phase vaccine and therapeutic product development for pharmaceutical, biotech and academic partners on a global scale. The research performed includes microbiology, virology and immunology as applied to a broad range of critical- path studies for R&D advancement. Studies involve BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens of high relevance to human health and disease. Using established models, our team provides partners the ability to assess the efficacy and/or elucidate the mechanism of action of vaccines and therapeutic compounds in early phase (non -GLP) preclinical evaluation. Your Role: In your role as a Junior Research Technician, you will be a highly motivated individual interested in learning and becoming proficient in laboratory techniques and skills as well as small animal models. The candidate will eventually be responsible for assisting with and performing laboratory duties as directed in support of in vivo and in vitro research projects yielding highly reliable and reproducible data essential for biomedical research. What You’ll Do: • Work alongside Research Technicians, Program Managers and Scientific Staff to learn scientific techniques and methods to develop skills necessary to take on independent work under guidance. • Work towards full understanding of specific projects, while applying scientific rigor to work. • Carry out experiments using established methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as assisting with the development of new methods to advance project goals. • Collect, organize, and analyze data collected during studies and develop the ability to present the data to team members and managers. • Develop skills under guidance to grow and maintain cell lines using aseptic culture technique, working towards independent facilitation. • Assist in reagent preparation and general lab upkeep. • Learn to conduct biological and molecular assays. • Collect and process samples for imaging and staining procedures. • Learn to handle experimental animals for in vivo studies following standard protocols. • Participate in regular lab/group meetings. • Work in an environment handling biological, chemical, and infectious agents (bacteria and viruses) after appropriate safety training in compliance with institutional workplace safety policies. • Occasional holiday, evening, and weekend work required. Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: • Successful candidates will hold a High School Diploma and have an interest in pursuing a career in science. • Preferred candidates will have experience in handling animals. Individuals with prior veterinary technician experience are encouraged to apply. • Ability to learn standard laboratory procedures, equipment, and record -keeping skills. • Knowledge of computer software applications (MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity working with GraphPad Prism is a plus). • Must be self-motivated, flexible, and capable of learning new skill sets. • Excellent organization skills, time -management skills, and attention to detail. • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex working environment. • Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
