This opportunity offers exposure to sophisticated tax disputes involving corporate, partnership, international, transfer pricing, SALT, and IRS controversy matters while working alongside nationally recognized tax practitioners.

A leading Am Law firm is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate Attorney to join its highly regarded Washington, DC tax practice. This position is ideal for attorneys who have experience handling complex tax disputes and are seeking to develop advanced expertise in tax controversy, audits, appeals, litigation, and dispute resolution matters.
The successful candidate will work with corporations, partnerships, multinational organizations, financial institutions, and high-net-worth individuals on sophisticated federal, international, transfer pricing, and state and local tax matters. Associates will gain meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and hands-on experience addressing some of the most challenging tax controversies in the marketplace.
This position rarely becomes available at this level and is actively interviewing qualified candidates.

Job Responsibilities
• Advise clients on complex tax controversy matters at all stages of disputes and investigations
• Represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service and other governmental agencies
• Assist with IRS audits, administrative appeals, and dispute resolution proceedings
• Analyze corporate, partnership, international, and transfer pricing tax issues
• Counsel clients regarding state and local tax (SALT) controversies and compliance matters
• Identify potential tax controversy risks arising from corporate and transactional activities
• Develop strategic approaches for minimizing tax exposure and resolving disputes
• Prepare legal memoranda, briefs, protest letters, and other tax controversy submissions
• Participate in tax litigation matters and support appellate proceedings when necessary
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex tax and transactional issues
• Monitor legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments affecting clients
• Maintain strong client relationships while providing practical and strategic legal guidance

Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of experience handling tax controversy matters
• Experience involving corporate tax, partnership tax, or international tax issues
• Familiarity with transfer pricing and cross-border tax matters preferred
• Knowledge of state and local tax (SALT) issues preferred
• Experience handling audits, appeals, or tax dispute resolution matters
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent legal research and writing skills
• Outstanding verbal communication and advocacy capabilities
• Ability to manage multiple complex assignments simultaneously
• Strong attention to detail and professional judgment
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
• Active bar admission in the applicable jurisdiction
