Job Summary:

The Junior Financial Analyst will perform financial analysis to support the organization as a whole. This role will focus specifically on actuarial insurance performance to analyze and improve the performance of our insurance portfolios. The role will work closely with the Data & Analytics team to deliver financial reports and presentations to make actionable recommendations.


Duties/Responsibilities:

· Conduct high loss ratio analyses and present actionable recommendations such as reserve adjustments, product changes, or coverage modifications.

· Analyze specific data to identify patterns or underlying causes of underperformance.

· Present findings with clear, data-driven strategies for performance improvement.

· Manage runoff calculations for mature portfolios with no new premium inflow, including calculating anticipated runoff and reserves.

· Prepare a monthly report comparing expected vs. actual loss ratios for business review.

· Compare forecasted loss ratios against actual outcomes for the overall book of business.

· Perform detailed risk assessment procedures on revenue by recalculating earnings to validate accuracy and compliance with recognition standards.

· Conduct variance analysis and explain deviations, with insights into drivers of performance.

· Update rate cards based on portfolio analysis by identifying areas where pricing adjustments are needed.

· Ensure rate recommendations align with risk objectives and financial goals.

· Maintain organized work papers for each review and ensure analyses are documented thoroughly for future reference.

· Maintain systematic record keeping of assumptions, methods, and data sources.

· Continuously monitor trends across the insurance portfolio and identify emerging risks and improvement areas.

· Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of management.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2+ years' experience as a financial analyst preferably in the actuarial field.
  • Progress towards actuarial exams (SOA or CAS) highly preferred.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or other coding for data analysis and automation.
  • Strong experience in data wrangling, including cleaning, transforming, and structuring large datasets for analysis.
  • Experience or working knowledge of advanced forecasting techniques, predictive modeling, and trend analysis.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in English.
  • Eagerness to learn and positive can-do attitude.
