Overview

This role performs a wide range of commercial plumbing repairs, installations, and upgrades across diverse facilities. You interpret mechanical drawings, install and maintain piping systems for water, gas, and compressed air, and complete both routine and emergency service work. You handle everything from minor repairs to more complex piping and line re-routing, while following company procedures for inventory and material requisitions. Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain water, gas, steam, storm, and sewage piping systems in commercial and multi-unit buildings.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and blueprints to plan plumbing installations and repairs.
  • Perform emergency and routine plumbing repairs, including leaks, clogs, damaged fixtures, and system failures.
  • Service and upgrade fixtures and components such as sinks, faucets, toilets, bathtubs, drain lines, supply lines, radiator valves, and gas risers.
  • Install and maintain plumbing equipment including water heaters, pumps, sump pumps, sewage pumps, and ejectors.
  • Perform brazing and soldering on copper and other piping materials.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend system life.
  • Coordinate with other trades on construction and renovation projects to ensure code compliance.
  • Requisition parts and materials using internal systems and follow inventory procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all job sites.
  • Travel between job sites and respond to emergency calls as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of professional plumbing experience (installation, repair, and maintenance).
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and mechanical plans.
  • Hands-on experience with PVC, copper, and cast iron piping systems.
  • Proven experience with gas, water, drain, storm, and compressed air lines.
  • Skilled in brazing and soldering techniques.
  • Illinois Journeyman Plumber License (required).
  • City of Chicago Journeyman Plumber License (required).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to attend company-required training and continuing education.

  • Commercial construction and renovation plumbing experience.
  • Work in hotels, restaurants, retail spaces, and multi-unit residential buildings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in occupied and aging facilities.
  • Attention to detail when routing or re-routing gas, steam, and sewage lines.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple service calls.

Work Environment

Work takes place across a variety of commercial and multi-unit settings, including hotels, restaurants, strip malls, retail locations, and multi-unit apartment buildings. You travel between job sites to perform installations, repairs, and maintenance in both occupied and unoccupied spaces. The role involves working with common plumbing materials such as PVC, copper, and cast iron, and using tools and equipment for brazing, soldering, and pipe installation.

Hours follow a standard full-time schedule, with the need to respond to emergency repair calls as required by project demands.

The environment can vary from finished interior spaces to active construction areas, requiring adherence to safety protocols and appropriate work attire suitable for commercial job sites.

This is a Contract position based out of Waukegan, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
