Job Title: Job Shop Machinist

Job Description

This role is a hands-on machinist position in a job shop environment producing custom parts for industrial clients. You will work with multiple manual lathes and presses, as well as modern CNC machines, to set up, change out, and run equipment to manufacture precise components. You will interpret blueprints and drawings, determine the correct machining approach, and ensure parts meet exact specifications with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, change out, and operate manual lathes, presses, and CNC machines to produce industrial parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and detailed drawings to determine machining processes and dimensions.
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds based on material and part requirements.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform manual machining operations, including turning, facing, drilling, and milling as required.
  • Adjust machine settings and perform basic troubleshooting to maintain part quality and consistency.
  • Work from drawings to independently determine the sequence of operations needed to produce specific parts.
  • Complete setups for different jobs, including changing tooling, fixtures, and workholding as needed.
  • Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality, making corrections when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience with manual machining in a job shop or similar environment.
  • Ability to independently set up, operate, and adjust manual lathes and related machining equipment.
  • Strong blueprint and drawing reading skills, with the ability to translate prints into machining steps.
  • Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to check dimensions.
  • Experience performing setups and change outs on machining equipment.
  • Capability to work at a skilled level with minimal training or supervision.
  • Comfort operating in a multi-machine environment that includes lathes, presses, and CNC equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • CNC machining experience is beneficial, particularly with modern CNC equipment.
  • Programming experience for CNC machines is a plus.
  • Experience with mills and other shop machinery is advantageous.
  • Experience in a custom or job shop setting supporting industrial clients is helpful.
  • Ability to quickly assess a drawing and determine the required machining operations.

Work Environment

This position is based in a job shop environment that supports a variety of industrial projects. The shop features multiple manual lathes, presses, and two newer CNC machines, providing exposure to both traditional and modern machining technologies. The standard schedule follows a first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with overtime typically offered on Fridays and some Saturdays. The setting is a hands-on, production-oriented machine shop where you will work around active machinery, tools, and measuring equipment, following standard industrial safety practices and appropriate workwear for a machining environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ellabell, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
