The Investor Protection Specialist helps prevent those losses by reaching people before scammers do - through education, storytelling, and creative outreach that makes complex information understandable and actionable.

This position is ideal for someone who wants to combine marketing expertise with public service impact-protecting Missourians and strengthening financial confidence statewide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Education Campaigns: Create and promote statewide investor education outreach initiatives-via in-person, digital, broadcast, and community channels to raise awareness of investment fraud prevention and investor best practices.
  • Drive Digital and Social Media Engagement: Work with the Securities Commissioner and Secretary of State Communications Director to develop targeted social media and online advertising campaigns that connect with Missourians across platforms.
  • Represent the Division Publicly: Deliver presentations at conferences, senior centers, securities symposiums, schools, and civic events to educate the public and promote the Division's investor protection message to help investors identify risks with investing.
  • Build Partnerships: Collaborate with senior citizen advocacy groups, Department of Health & Senior Services, trade groups, libraries, schools, and community organizations to extend the reach of investor education efforts.
  • Create Accessible Educational Content: Produce clear, engaging materials-videos, radio spots, brochures, promotional products and online resources-that help citizens identify scams and make informed financial choices. Maintain and update the Securities Division website to create a resource that informs and protects Missourians from fraud.
  • Develop Educational Outreach: Connect with school-age children through the development of age-appropriate resources, including the Division's connection to the Stock Market Game, utilized in classrooms across the state.
  • Secure Resources and Track Trends: Identify non-partisan grants to further extend and develop Missouri's investor protection efforts while monitoring emerging fraud trends to continuously improve education and outreach strategies.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, social media, communications, public relations, education, journalism, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience developing and managing public outreach or awareness campaigns, preferably in a government, nonprofit, or advocacy setting.
    • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to explain complex topics in clear, engaging, and accessible language.
    • Proven ability to use social media and digital platforms strategically to reach and influence target audiences.
    • Experience in public speaking or training is preferred.
    • Experience with financial or consumer protection topics is helpful but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Creative communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in planning and executing multimedia marketing campaigns.
  • Able to build and maintain community partnerships across diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel across Missouri (approximately 0-6 days per month).
