The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

This position is located at Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville, LA. The purpose of this position is to educate the public on the natural and cultural resources of the state and to cultivate, protect, and utilize historical artifacts in support of state parks and state historic sites.

Four years of experience in archaeological or anthropological work; or in conservation work or natural resource management; or in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural or physical history or relating to the natural environment; OR

A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in archaeological or anthropological work; or in conservation work or natural resource management; or in planning or presenting interpretive or educational programs relating to cultural or physical history or relating to the natural environment.

Job Duties:

  • Implements site level educational programs and interpretive effectiveness with the conduct of program audits and evaluations.
  • Works to ensure OSP collaborative programming meets grade-level expectations.
  • Plans, constructs, and displays interpretive exhibits for visitor centers as well as site promotional spaces.
  • Assists staff with cleaning the interior and exterior of buildings in preparation for incoming reservations and groups, to include grounds upkeep, trail maintenance, and litter pickup.
  • Conceptualizes, designs, coordinates, and develops new educational programs, interpretive exhibits, audiovisuals, and trails for visitor education and enjoyment.
  • Initiates, conducts, and reviews original research in support of proposed or existing programs, exhibits, etc. and develops them for interpretation.
  • Works with site manager and Interpretive Services to review programs and exhibits for accuracy, interpretive value, and agency direction.
  • Writes, prepares layouts, edits, and produces a variety of promotional and informational materials such as brochures, flyers, media programs, etc.
  • Provides information and answers inquiries for site visitors.

Position-Specific Details:
Location:Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville, LA
Appointment Type:This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE
Work Schedule: This position is limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12 month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
