The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency that focuses on issues critical to the region’s success, including growth and development, transportation, water resources, services for older adults and workforce solutions. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region’s collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. This is done through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships. ARC functions as the Atlanta region’s federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Natural Resources Department (NRD) has an intern position available to support the work of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (District) and other NRD initiatives. The intern will provide general assistance for the District’s research initiatives and work program. The key responsibilities include geospatial data collection, processing, analysis, and visualization, as well as maintaining Geographic Information System (GIS) databases for accuracy and currency. This role requires the creation of maps and other visual outputs to communicate findings, and strong attention to detail and effective communication of technical information are essential.

This temporary position is not eligible for benefits; working up to 29 hours per week.

- Provide in-depth research, analysis and annotations related to water supply and conservation, wastewater management, stormwater management, public education, and resilience across the Metro Atlanta region.
- Use ArcGIS Pro to collect, verify, analyze, and maintain a variety of regional datasets, including, but not limited to, hydrological features, landcover and imperviousness, utility infrastructure and service areas, greenspaces, and administrative boundaries.
- Process and interpret geospatial data to generate meaningful maps and graphics.
- Organize, analyze, interpret, and summarize related data.
- Write reports, summaries, and other narratives
Completed a Bachelors or pursing a graduate degree in environmental planning, environmental science/studies, GIS, data analytics, geosciences, urban and regional planning, computer science, or related field

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform theessential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any otherrequirements set forth in law or regulation.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Knowledge of water quality and watershed management
•Experience with R or other languages for data processing and analysis
•Completed an Undergraduate degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science/Studies, GIS, Data Analytics, Geosciences, Urban and Regional Planning, other Science and technology concentrations or similar level of college level education required.
•Requires strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
•High level of attention to detail.
•Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote).
•Skilled in establishing priorities and organizing work.
•Ability to work independently with general instructions.
•Proficiency in ArcPro and related tools is required.
•Knowledge of municipal water systems, water quality and watershed management is preferred.
