Position Overview

The Intake Specialist position is in our downtown Chicago Office located at 115 S. LaSalle Street, Chicago, IL. This position serves under the direction of the Intake Manager and is responsible for intake functions on mail, email, and online complaint applications received by the Department of Labor (DOL). Essential Functions
  • Performs intake functions on mail, email, and online complaint applications received by the Department of Labor (DOL).
  • Reviews complaints for jurisdiction, completeness, and correctness.
  • Answers multiple telephone lines for the Fair Labor Standards Division, including phone lines handling minimum wage and overtime, child labor, rest and meal breaks, and wage payment and collection act inquiries.
  • Responds to general inquiries received by Fair Labor Standards via email and in person.
  • Serves as designated back up person for the processing and verification of monies collected by the agency.
  • Assists with other FLS functions as needed, including review of Child Labor Certificates, review of sub-minimum wage applications, referral and tracking of cases to the Office of the Attorney General, and more.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 45 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of experience in office methods and procedures, such as data entry, record-keeping, document organization, filing, and general office workflow.
  • One (1) year of experience in a customer service role.
  • One (1) year demonstrating extensive skills in writing, composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Conditions of Employment
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing, or involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
