Responsibilities
The Intake Case Manager (ICM) has overall responsibility to initiate triage of a patient who presents in psychiatric crisis to the Emergency Department or from outside facilities. ICM is responsible for the quality of triage and appropriate resource management for all patients who present for psychiatric assessment, triage, disposition and/or crisis management. The ICM is responsible for ensuring appropriateness of admission and/or disposition of any patient presenting with a potential psychiatric illness. The ICM provides assessment of psychiatric patients who present to the Emergency Department, BH unit or the acute care units of the hospital. The ICM is responsible for ensuring all regulatory standards related to psychiatric admission are met, coordinating with the attending psychiatrist and coordinating with community resources for appropriate disposition when the facility is unable to meet the patient�s care needs. The ICM is responsible for the utilization review process as it relates to triage and admission to the Behavioral Health Unit. The ICM is a patient advocate and demonstrates leadership to integrate health care providers in achieving seamless delivery of care across the continuum. The methodology is designed to facilitate and ensure the achievement of quality, clinical and cost-effectiveness, and utilization of evidence-based quality practices. The ICM ensures the comprehensive admission and concurrent review of the medical record for the medical necessity, intensity of services and severity of illness. The ICM provides oversight throughout the patient admission, across the continuum and supports other interdisciplinary team members to include the discharge planning process. Additional duties may include assisting with direct patient care such as group and recreational therapy and marketing with other facilities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Current and valid Kansas RN License or LBSW
2. At least 2 years of Psychiatric Nursing experience.
3. BLS upon hire and maintained current.
4. Greater than 2 years management experience, preferred.
5. Experience in psychiatric emergency and triage preferred.
6. Knowledge of Milliman Criteria and InterQual Criteria preferred.
7. Knowledge of psychiatric medical necessity, case management regulations in discharge planning.
