Job Description

This role focuses on preparing and cleaning job sites for insulation and waterproofing projects while supporting experienced crew members. You will handle a variety of construction tasks such as scraping excess insulation from joists and trusses, organizing materials, and using basic hand tools and spray foam equipment. Over time, you can grow into installing thermal insulation and spray foam insulation independently, with comprehensive on-the-job training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare job sites for insulation and waterproofing work by performing detailed prep and cleanup tasks.
  • Scrape excess insulation from joists, trusses, and other structural elements to ensure clean, even surfaces.
  • Assist with organizing materials, tools, and equipment to keep the work area safe, efficient, and tidy.
  • Use basic hand tools such as hammers, drills, and fasteners to support installation and construction activities.
  • Operate hoses connected to 55-gallon drums of spray foam insulation under direction and training.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of a respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Work at various heights as needed on framing, roofing, or elevated structures in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Support insulation installation, framing, drywall, flooring, and other construction-related tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborate closely with the supervisor and a crew of 3–4 team members to complete projects on schedule.
  • Travel to different job sites, including hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, stadiums, and other commercial facilities, occasionally staying overnight as required.
  • Maintain attention to detail and organization in all tasks to ensure high-quality workmanship and site cleanliness.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, accept coaching, and progressively take on more advanced insulation and spray foam installation responsibilities.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of construction experience in areas such as carpentry, concrete, insulation, or remediation work (excluding landscaping).
  • Practical experience using basic hand tools, including hammers, drills, and similar equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license to travel to and from job sites.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight from time to time as project needs require.
  • Ability to work safely at different heights on various structures.
  • Strong attention to detail with an organized and methodical approach to work.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, including consistent use of a respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Reliable work history that demonstrates commitment and stability in previous roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous insulation experience, including thermal or spray foam insulation, is a plus.
  • CDL or Chauffeur’s License is an advantage for driving company vehicles or transporting materials.
  • Background in construction trades such as framing, roofing, drywall, flooring, tile, and piping is beneficial.
  • Experience working on commercial renovation or ground-up construction projects is helpful.
  • Interest in growing into roles with greater responsibility, such as foreman or superintendent, over time.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and eagerness to learn new techniques and systems.

Work Environment

Work takes place on commercial construction and renovation sites, including hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, stadiums, and other large facilities that are typically vacant or under construction. You will be part of a crew of 3–4 people paired with a supervisor, working with modern insulation equipment, including hoses connected to 55-gallon drums of spray foam, as well as standard construction tools such as hammers and drills. The role involves physical labor, working at various heights, and adhering to strict safety practices, including wearing a respirator while handling spray foam materials. Projects may require travel to sites outside the immediate area, with occasional overnight stays. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and team-oriented, with a focus on safe, efficient, and high-quality work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $35.00/hr.
