Job Title: Mold Assembler (Crimper) – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shift

Job Description

The Mold Assembler (Crimper) plays a critical role in assembling polymer insulators by attaching metal end fittings to polymer cores and ensuring each unit meets strict mechanical and electrical performance standards. This hands-on position requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with hydraulic or pneumatic crimping tools, and the ability to follow precise pressure specifications and detailed work instructions in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble polymer insulator components according to detailed work instructions, technical drawings, and established quality standards.
  • Operate hydraulic and pneumatic crimping equipment to securely attach metal end fittings to polymer rods.
  • Set, verify, and follow precise pressure and force specifications for each crimping operation to ensure consistent quality.
  • Inspect crimped assemblies for correct depth, alignment, bonding, and overall structural integrity.
  • Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and go/no-go gauges to confirm dimensional accuracy and crimp tolerances.
  • Support polymer molding, curing, and material preparation processes as production needs require.
  • Handle materials safely and efficiently to keep the production line running smoothly.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment, safe equipment handling, and adherence to lockout/tagout practices.
  • Identify and promptly communicate defects, equipment issues, or material shortages to supervision so that problems are resolved quickly.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team-based problem-solving to enhance product quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Use hand and power tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, mallets, cutting tools, and torque wrenches as part of daily assembly and production work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and contribute to a structured, team-oriented production environment.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
  • Proven experience operating hydraulic and pneumatic crimping tools to attach metal fittings or similar components.
  • Ability to set, verify, and follow exact pressure and force specifications for crimping operations.
  • Proficiency using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, go/no-go gauges, and other measurement and inspection tools in a quality-controlled environment.
  • Experience with general machine operation and production line work in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed work instructions and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail for inspecting assemblies and ensuring dimensional accuracy and structural integrity.
  • Capability to use hand and power tools safely, including torque wrenches, cutting tools, pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, including PPE use, equipment handling protocols, and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work a consistent full-time shift schedule with potential overtime as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with polymer molding, curing, or material preparation processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in wire harness assembly or crimping work where precision and repeatability are critical.
  • Familiarity working within ISO-controlled or similarly structured quality systems.
  • Previous experience in general labor, assembly, or production roles using both hand and power tools.
  • Comfort working with hydraulic presses, pneumatic presses, and torque-controlled tools.
  • Ability to contribute to continuous improvement activities and team-based problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills to report defects, equipment issues, and material needs clearly and promptly.
