Central Piedmont Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education (CE) Manicuring and Pedicuring Instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college while ensuring compliance with the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art ExaminersI. Mastery of Subject Matter

Qualified candidates must demonstrate proficiency in manicuring and pedicuring theory and practical application as defined by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners, including but not limited to:

• Advanced manicure and pedicure techniques
• Nail shaping, cuticle care, and natural nail services
• Artificial nail enhancements (acrylic, gel, dip systems) within the scope of practice
• Electric filing techniques, nail art design, and current industry trends
• Infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures in accordance with NC Board laws and rules
• Disinfection standards and blood exposure procedures
• Client consultation and contraindications
• Product chemistry and safe use of professional nail products
• Professional ethics, client relations, and salon best practices
• North Carolina cosmetic art laws and rules applicable to nail professionals

Additional expectations include:

• Developing and implementing CE curriculum aligned with the NC Board of Cosmetic Arts requirements
• Demonstrating proper use of tools, implements, and nail technology equipment
• Teaching theory related to the anatomy of the nail unit and skin
• Ensuring content meets Board-mandated instructional hours and compliance standards
• Organizing competency-based practical activities when applicable
• Maintaining current knowledge of nail industry trends, safety updates, and regulatory changes

II. Teaching Performance

• Teach assigned CE courses in accordance with approved outlines and NC Board guidelines
• Plan and organize instruction to maximize documented participant learning
• Employ effective teaching strategies appropriate for adult learners and licensed professionals
• Supervise and evaluate participants in classroom and practical lab environments when applicable
• Modify instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
• Utilize instructional technology and digital resources when appropriate
• Encourage professional growth, safe practice standards, and critical thinking
• Contribute to the development and revision of CE instructional materials
• Develop, update, and distribute syllabi and required CE documentation in accordance with college and Board policies

III. Evaluation of Participant Learning

• Establish measurable learning outcomes aligned with NC Board objectives
• Develop consistent methods to assess participant engagement and comprehension
• Accurately document attendance and instructional hours in compliance with NC Board reporting requirements
• Maintain complete and audit-ready records
• Submit completion documentation within required timelines
• Demonstrate professionalism while maintaining regulatory and instructional standards

IV. Support of College Policies and Procedures

• Teach assigned CE classes in classroom, lab, clinical, or online environments as needed
• Ensure strict compliance with NC Board sanitation and safety regulations
• Maintain confidentiality of participant records in accordance with institutional policies
• Record attendance and hours accurately
• Maintain classroom and lab spaces consistent with inspection standards
• Adhere to Corporate and Continuing Education operational procedures

V. Participation in College, Division, and Program

• Respond promptly to information requests from college, division, and program administrators
• Participate in professional development and compliance updates
• Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication with participants, colleagues, and administrators
• Assist with program development, recruitment, and retention initiatives

VI. Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs

• Maintain familiarity with the college’s mission, goals, and strategic initiatives
• Participate in program planning and continuous improvement efforts
• Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in nail technology practices and regulations
• Support outreach and industry partnership initiatives
• Perform professional responsibilities in alignment with college, division, and program objectives




Current North Carolina Manicurist License or Cosmetologist License in good standing
Current North Carolina Cosmetology Teacher’s License or NC Manicurist Teacher’s License
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of two (2) years of licensed nail technology experience in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience in a community college or post-secondary cosmetic arts program
Two (2) or more years of professional nail technology experience
Strong instructional and presentation skills for adult learnersWorking Conditions:

Work is performed in both classroom and salon/lab environments that simulate real-world cosmetology and barbering settings. Instructors are regularly exposed to chemicals, hair products, and odors, and must follow all safety and sanitation regulations. The role requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and the ability to demonstrate technical skills. Instructors may need to lift and move equipment or supplies up to a moderate weight. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required to meet program needs. Interaction with students, clients, and staff is frequent in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
