Central Piedmont Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis onexcellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education (CE) instructors are expected to demonstrate andmaintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college.
Position Summary
The Continuing Education Makeup Artistry Instructor provides high-quality, industry-focused instruction inshort-term, non-curriculum courses and workshops. Instruction may include foundational, corrective, bridal,editorial, special event, or advanced makeup techniques. Courses are designed for personal enrichment,workforce development, or continuing education (CE) credit for licensed professionals.The instructor delivers hands-on, skills-based training aligned with industry standards and, when applicable,North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners continuing education requirementsI. Mastery of Subject Matter
• Advanced corrective makeup techniques (face shaping, color correction, contouring, highlighting)
• Bridal and special event makeup application• Skin analysis and product selection based on skin type and condition
• Complexion matching across diverse skin tones and undertones
• Application techniques, including brush, sponge, and airbrush (if applicable)
• Lash application (strip and adhesive bands) in accordance with safety guidelines
• Professional product knowledge, ingredient awareness, and cosmetic chemistry fundamentals
• Time management and efficiency in professional service delivery
II. Teaching Performance
• Teach a course(s) appropriate to their field or discipline
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
• Employ available instructional technology, i.e., the internet, interactive technology, when appropriate
• Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
• Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
• Develop, update, and post course syllabi promptly
III. Evaluation of Student Learning
• Establish meaningful student learning outcomes for courses/programs
• Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes
• Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to the division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
• Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
IV. Support of College Policies and Procedures
• Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment
• Teach non-credit courses within the field or discipline as needed
• Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies
• Maintain confidentiality of student information
• Record grades and provide attendance data in accordance with College Policies and Procedures
V. Participation in College, Division, and Program
• Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in makeup artistry techniques
• Develop and maintain course lesson plans aligned with approved CE course outlines.
• Ensure instructional content meets industry standards and Board requirements (if CE hours are awarded).
• Demonstrate proper sanitation, infection control, and safety procedures in accordance with state regulations.
• Supervise students during practical application and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate attendance and required CE documentation.
• Administer course evaluations and assessments as required.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and professional classroom/lab environment.
• Communicate effectively with the Program Director regarding course progress, supply needs, and student concerns.
• Stay current with industry trends, products, and techniques.
• Participate in required instructor meetings or training sessions.
• Active North Carolina Cosmetology or Esthetics license in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional makeup artistry experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in corrective, bridal, and/or advanced makeup techniques.
• Knowledge of sanitation and infection control standards.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous teaching or training experience (community college, salon, workshop, or industry platform).
• Experience delivering continuing education (CE) courses.
• Platform artistry or portfolio of professional work.
• Experience with diverse skin tones and inclusive makeup techniques.
