Teach and assess student learning outcomes in biology courses appropriate to the first two years of the college curriculum, supporting diverse learners in achieving academic success. This includes courses in Zoology, Genetics, and other biology courses such as Human Biology; many of which support LC’s Health Science programs, including Nursing and Dental Assisting.
In collaboration with colleagues, this position will be responsible for ongoing, inclusive curriculum evaluation and continuous improvement within the context of LCCC’s general education objectives and articulation requirements. This role will support student learning and engagement beyond the classroom through participation in student activities, college initiatives, and community events. You will help sustain and strengthen the program capabilities of the Biology Department. This role will participate in securing and administering existing and future campus grants. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, including both lectures and laboratory instruction.
- Learner-Centered Instruction: Teach biology courses in alignment with established student learning objectives, using inclusive and effective instructional practices that support student success. Regularly assess student learning to inform and continuously improve instruction. Teach evening and/or off-campus courses, as needed, to support access and scheduling flexibility. Provide office hours that are responsive to and supportive of student schedules.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and/or revise courses in collaboration with colleagues to ensure academic quality, relevance, and alignment. Propose and develop interdepartmental course offerings that meet biology articulation and transfer requirements.
- Technology: Integrate instructional technology, as appropriate to the discipline of biology, including the effective and safe use of laboratory equipment. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and utilize online and/or web-enhanced instructional delivery methods as program and student needs evolve.
- Involvement: Support College-wide initiatives and serve on committees. Mentor and support adjunct faculty in biology, fostering a collaborative and supportive teaching community.
- Professional Development: Initiate and maintain active participation in professional development opportunities that support disciplinary expertise, inclusive teaching practices, and instructional effectiveness.
- Philosophy: Continually strive to advance and uphold the College’s Mission, Vision, and Purposes, contributing to a welcoming, equitable, and student-focused learning environment.
- Master’s Degree in appropriate biological field from an accredited college/university required, Ph.D. preferred.
- Teaching experience at the college level in biology preferred.
- Skills and experience to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues, administrators and the community.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the community college required.
