Evening, weekend, television, distance education (Hana, Lanai, and Molokai), and off-campus (various high school campuses) may be assigned as part of the regular workload.
Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month, based on program needs
Duties and Responsibilities:
- In an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited Associate Degree Nursing Program and under general supervision, to teach courses in Nursing, supervise student lab and clinical experiences, and perform work as assigned to facilitate this.
- The duties include teaching introductory and intermediate Nursing courses using a variety of instructional methods, including in-person, online, and hybrid
- Conduct curriculum and program development for the Nursing program
- Provide service in areas of expertise to the University and the larger community
- Develop teaching strategies, instructional materials, and methods
- Advise students, identify student learning needs, and implement constructive responses to them
- Participate in faculty and administrative committees
- Develop an approved program of professional self-improvement
- Community and campus service
- Planning, organizing, and independently carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments
- Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) AND at least one (1) year of hospital experience in acute and/or critical care experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility (preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five (5) years of the date of application) AND Registered Nurse (RN) eligible for Hawaii State License (license required by effective date of employment)
OR
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) AND at least three (3) years of hospital experience in acute and/or critical care experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility (preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five (5) years of the date of application) AND RN eligible for Hawaii State License (license required by effective date of employment)
AND
Clinical experience in Medical Surgical Nursing

Desirable Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Nursing (DNP or PhD) or Doctorate in Education (EdD)
- Experience teaching in a pre-licensure nursing program
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population
- Ability to teach using various technological modalities
- The ability to apply knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture to effectively collaborate with multicultural groups and individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
