Other Conditions:

Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month, based on program/operational needs.

Evening, weekend, television, distance education (i.e., Hana, Lanai, and Molokai), and off-campus (various high school campuses) may be assigned as part of the regular workload.

This is NOT a remote position – the job requires in-person work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under general supervision, teach a range of pre-college and college-level Automotive lecture and laboratory courses;
  2. Work with colleagues and independently to develop curriculum and to identify, plan, develop, and implement learning strategies to meet student, special population, college, and community needs;
  3. Perform other related work as assigned, which may include, but is not limited to, advising and counseling students, assisting in campus-related faculty and student activities, participating in faculty and administrative committees, community-service activities, professional and self-development activities, program review, assessment, and course and program development.
  4. Provide college and community service.
  5. Participate in professional development activities.
  6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

All minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of the appointment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education, AND three (3) years related work experience, AND Automotive Service Experience (ASE) Certification in areas to be taught

OR

  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education, AND five (5) years related work experience, AND ASE Certification in areas to be taught

OR

  • 15 college credits in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education AND seven (7) years related work experience, including training, AND ASE Certification in areas to be taught

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Teaching experience, preferably in a community college, in Automotive Technology courses;
  2. Strong background (academic and/or professional experience) in automotive technology;
  3. Knowledge of computers and their applications to automotive vehicles, teaching, and laboratory work;
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and to communicate clearly;
  5. Experience in working with people from various social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and with diverse academic interests and abilities;
  6. Experience in grant writing and grant execution;
  7. Knowledge of and experience with alternative delivery modes of instruction.
  8. The ability to apply knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture to effectively collaborate with multicultural groups and individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
