Job Title: Audio-Visual (AV) Installation Technician II

Job Summary

The AV Installation Technician II is responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting audiovisual systems for client projects. This role performs hands-on installation tasks, ensures system functionality, and may lead small teams on less complex projects. The technician works closely with project managers and other stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within scope, and to quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform AV installation tasks including cable pulling, termination, equipment installation, rack fabrication, and system wiring
  • Read and interpret system schematics and construction/architectural drawings
  • Test point-to-point cabling and verify system functionality
  • Install and terminate low-voltage cabling (e.g., HDMI, CAT5e/6, fiber)
  • Use hand and power tools for installation tasks such as soldering and crimping
  • Assist with system setup, testing, and basic troubleshooting
  • Support client training on system usage as needed
  • Track, manage, and secure tools and equipment on job sites
  • Communicate daily progress and job status to the Project Manager
  • Coordinate with other trades and stakeholders on-site
  • Act as on-site client liaison and escalate change requests appropriately
  • Lead and oversee Level I technicians on smaller projects
  • Assist with loading and testing system programming under guidance
  • Support material returns and documentation processes


Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach
  • Intermediate knowledge of AV systems (e.g., displays, audio systems, microphones, control systems)
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting low-voltage cabling and AV equipment
  • Basic understanding of networked AV systems and IP-based technologies
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience using AV test equipment
  • Knowledge of installation safety standards and best practices
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead small teams or oversee junior technicians
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
  • Physical ability to lift equipment and work in construction environments
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2–4 years of AV installation experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education in Audio-Visual, Electronics, or a related field
  • Industry certifications such as AVIXA CTS
  • OSHA safety training (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification)
  • Experience with enterprise collaboration platforms such as:
  • Zoom
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Manufacturer-specific AV certifications or training
  • Ability to obtain security clearances if required


Work Environment

This role primarily operates on client sites, including construction environments. Work may involve travel, variable hours, and physically demanding tasks such as lifting equipment and working with tools.
