Job Summary:
The Industrial Safety Coordinator (Steel Fabrication) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all health and safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This role supports incident-free operations by enforcing regulatory standards, company policies, and industry best practices within a steel fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development & Implementation
- Develop, update, and enforce workplace safety policies and procedures
- Maintain and update the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements
Safety Inspections & Audits
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards
- Maintain detailed records of inspections and corrective actions
- Follow up with foremen and employees to ensure timely hazard correction
- Maintain and manage safety audits using iAuditor
Accident Prevention & Investigation
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes
- Prepare reports and recommend corrective and preventive measures
- Accompany injured employees to medical facilities when needed
- Conduct substance testing in accordance with company policy
Training & Safety Awareness
- Lead and conduct safety training sessions for employees
- Provide operator training for forklifts and overhead cranes
- Ensure employees understand PPE requirements and emergency procedures
Hazard Control & Risk Management
- Perform pre-task analyses and risk assessments
- Identify workplace risks and implement preventive measures
- Monitor use of PPE and enforce safety signage compliance
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and evacuation procedures
- Coordinate fire drills, spill drills, and other emergency simulations
Compliance Monitoring & Documentation
- Ensure all certifications, permits, and records are current
- Monitor regulatory updates and adjust safety programs accordingly
- Maintain logs of inspections, incidents, and safety meetings
- Provide regular safety performance reports to management
Safety Communication & Leadership
- Act as liaison between management, employees, and regulatory agencies
- Provide daily updates to management on safety performance and improvements
- Promote a proactive, safety-first culture across the organization
- Lead by example in all safety-related practices
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze safety data to identify trends and recurring issues
- Recommend and implement improvements to safety systems and processes
