Shift: 7am - 4pm Monday - Friday, some Saturdays as required. Good overtime

Job Description

The Industrial Pump Mechanic ensures the smooth and reliable operation of pumps that support a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and water treatment. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining various types of pumps—such as centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible units—by applying strong mechanical and electrical knowledge. The position requires hands-on work with machines, tools, and equipment, as well as careful documentation of maintenance and repair activities to keep systems running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and troubleshoot pumps to identify issues related to wear, damage, or malfunction.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on pumps, including lubrication, cleaning, and component checks to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Install, remove, and reinstall pumps and related equipment, ensuring proper alignment and secure mounting.
  • Repair pumps and associated equipment by replacing motors, seals, bearings, and other mechanical or electrical components as needed.
  • Test pumps after installation or repair to verify proper performance and operation before final commissioning.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to guide assembly, installation, and repair tasks.
  • Assemble and build pump systems and related rotating equipment, compressors, and machine components according to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues affecting pump systems and associated machinery.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, parts used, and test results.
  • Apply welding and fabricating skills to support repairs and modifications of large industrial parts and pump components.
  • Work with wiring and electrical connections related to pump motors and controls in accordance with safety and technical requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with team members and supervisors to report status, issues, and progress on multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Manage time effectively to complete work orders and meet project deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Follow all safety procedures and exercise constant vigilance when working around mechanical parts, electricity, noise, vibration, and protective finishes.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial pumps, including centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible pumps.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with rotating equipment, compressors, and machine building.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to pump systems and machinery.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Skilled in assembly, disassembly, and installation of pumps and related mechanical components.
  • Experience with wiring and basic electrical work associated with pump motors and controls.
  • Ability to weld and fabricate components for large industrial parts and pump-related structures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for large industrial equipment and complex pump systems.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.
  • Clear and consistent communication skills to coordinate work and report findings.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, walking, turning, pivoting, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and standing for 8 or more hours per day.
  • Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures depending on the season.
  • Adequate vision for close work, distance viewing, color differentiation, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus adjustment, with or without correction.
  • Ability to hear well, with or without correction, to safely perform job duties in a noisy industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a job shop or large machine shop environment.
  • Experience in building and assembling custom mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Familiarity with protective finishes, industrial coatings, and their impact on equipment handling.
  • Comfort working around noise, vibration, dust, and mechanical parts in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and adapt to changing business demands, including overtime and weekend work when required.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position, typically scheduled Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with overtime and occasional Saturday and Sunday work as needed to meet business demand. The role is based in a job shop and large machine shop setting, with frequent work at both indoor and outdoor sites. The environment includes regular exposure to dust, protective finishes, mechanical parts, electricity, noise, and vibration, requiring constant attention to safety. Work may be performed in varying temperatures depending on the season, and the position involves extended periods of standing and physical activity around industrial equipment and machinery.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
