Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Import/Export & Customs Compliance Specialist to manage international shipments while ensuring full compliance with applicable customs regulations. This role partners closely with logistics providers, customs brokers, and internal teams to drive the efficient and compliant movement of goods into and out of North America.
The ideal candidate brings strong operational execution along with hands-on expertise in U.S. customs compliance, classification, and cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Operations
- Own day-to-day execution of international shipments (air, ocean, and ground) from factories to distribution center.
- Coordinate with Paris headquarters, freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Track shipments and proactively resolve delays, customs holds, discrepancies, and damage claims.
- Optimize routing, transit times, and freight costs while enforcing routing guides and vendor compliance standards.
- Develop and maintain shipment tracking tools to monitor time-to-market and logistics spend.
- Issue export documentation and ensure completeness and accuracy of shipping paperwork.
- Review and validate freight invoices and customs entries for accuracy, ensuring proper recording in internal systems.
- Develop and maintain SOP for logistics and compliance processes
- Assist with operations activities as needed.
Customs Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable import/export regulations, including requirements from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
- Classify products using HTS codes; determine country of origin and MID requirements in collaboration with Paris headquarters.
- Manage pre-classification processes, and work with U.S. Customs Brokers to identify and resolve potential Quota, F&WL, or tariff issues.
- Review and approve commercial invoices, packing lists, and other customs documentation.
- Audit CBP Form 7501 for accuracy; manage duty payments (ACH/PMS) and post entry adjustments.
- Maintain records for North America in accordance with regulatory requirements and support internal/external audits.
- Support duty optimization programs (e.g., free trade agreements, duty drawback)
- Support Headquarters with regulatory requirements for North and South America (e.g., FDA, CPSC, FTC, USDA).
Reporting & Systems
- Track and analyze KPIs (on-time delivery, clearance times, logistics cost).
- Maintain accurate data in M3 and Winddle.
- Generate reporting and insight for leadership on shipment activity and compliance metrics.
Required Experience and Skills
- 3-5 years of experience in import/export and US Customs Compliance (fashion apparel/footwear, or retail supply chain preferred).
- Strong knowledge of international shipping processes, Incoterms, and customs procedures.
- Hands-on experience with HTS classification and import/export documentation.
- Knowledge of duty savings programs and trade agreements.
- Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field.
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP required).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- High attention to detail, accuracy and organization.
- Effective communication across global teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
