Boulder CountyPublic HealthDepartment is seeking to hire an Immunization Clinic Vaccines for Children (VFC) Nurse – Hourly (On-Call).This position is primarily responsible for providing immunizations to children and adults at Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) clinics and entering vaccine documentation and immunization records into the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS). BCPH immunization clinics are regularly held on Mondays from 12:30p-6:30p in Longmont and on Wednesdays from 12:30p-4:30p in Boulder. Occasional evening and weekend work may be available, and make-up clinics may be held on Thursdays in Longmont following a Monday holiday. The position also occasionally participates in other projects, such as immunization clinics at the BC Jail or shelters. This position participates in vaccine preventable disease outbreak preparedness and response activities (e.g. measles, Hepatitis A, meningitis). Hours can vary widely from 6 to 40 hours per month, depending on time of year and coverage needed for staff due to vacations/illness. Immunization clinics typically require more staffing in August with the start of the school year and the fall respiratory season, continuing through December. Due to the seasonal nature of this position, sufficient previous VFC experience/competency is required to be able to fulfill all duties and responsibilities with minimal additional training and supervision.

This is an hourly, non-benefitedposition that will work approximately 10-15 hours per month,Mondays 12:30pm - 6:30pm, Wednesdays 12:30pm - 4:30pmwithoccasional evenings and weekends required. This position will work out of3482 Broadway St.,Boulder, and515 Coffman St., Longmont. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt(eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $30.69Hourly

  1. Evaluates client immunization records and client health screening questionnaire and assesses indication for immunization per current schedules set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
  2. Provides immunizations according to BCPH Immunization Program policy as outlined in BCPH standing orders and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocols
  3. Follows all Vaccines for Children (VFC) program guidelines and requirements, including routine and emergency vaccine management and storage plans, as outlined in the VFC Operations Guide
  4. Completes CIIS database training and accurately documents client immunization history, immunizations provided, and all relevant encounter notes
  5. Communicates with and educates clients about vaccines and their immunization needs in an empathetic and professional manner, utilizing techniques such as Motivational Interviewing to address potential hesitancy in a sensitive manner
  6. Utilizes Language Access Services, including on-demand video interpretation, per needs of client
  7. Participates in annual VFC training and other trainings as determined by the Immunization Program Clinical Team Lead and Employee Health Nurse and takes responsibility for staying informed and up to date with current immunization schedules, guidelines, and administration practices as well as medical emergency protocols
  8. Will need to enroll with Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) as a rendering provider
  9. Manages the creation, maintenance, sharing, storage, and disposal of all client protected health information (PHI) in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements
  10. Performs related work, as required
  11. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s or associate degree in nursing

AND

  • 1 (one) year of clinical nursing experience and 2 (two) years of experience working as a VFC nurse

Additional related education may count towards required experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook) and database programs
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various clinic locations in Boulder County
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about applied public health and emergency response practices
