SKILLS REQUIRED:

Primary (Must-Have):

• IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS / Tivoli) Administration: Extensive hands-on experience (V10.1+) administering Master Domain Managers (MDM), Backup MDMs, Dynamic Workload Consoles (DWC), and Dynamic/Fault Tolerant Agent architectures.

• Command-Line & Planning Execution: Advanced command of conman, composer, and planman CLIs; deep execution knowledge of the daily production planning lifecycle (JNextPlan/FINAL).

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8+) Systems Engineering: Solid Linux foundations including SystemD management, performance diagnostics (htop, sar, io_stat), LVM, and network security/connectivity validations.

• WebSphere Liberty & Database Support: Expert troubleshooting of WebSphere Liberty logs (messages.log, JVM heap configs) and sufficient Oracle DB / SQL skills to diagnose enterprise metadata connectivity.

• Automation & Integration Scripting: Robust scripting capabilities in Python (utilizing the IWS REST API) and Bash shell, with experience implementing Ansible playbooks for self-healing infrastructure.


Secondary (Good to Have):

• Security & Compliance: Experience handling SSL/TLS keystore/truststore rotations, responding to cybersecurity vulnerability scans, and operating under regulatory compliance (PCI audit standards).

• Enterprise Tooling: Familiarity utilizing secret management vaults (CyberArk PPM, HashiCorp Vault) and managing developer workstreams via Jira.

• Cloud Infrastructure: Basic conceptual or hands-on exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure and hybrid deployments.


POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an elite Senior IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) Administrator / Infrastructure Engineer to oversee, optimize, and maintain a massive, high-throughput batch scheduling environment. Based out of Riverwoods, IL, on a hybrid schedule, this senior-level engineer will own a multi-environment infrastructure processing over 28,000 unique daily jobs across 350,000 daily runs and 44 critical servers. The successful candidate will leverage 10+ years of IT engineering experience to drive platform stability up to a 99.17% monthly uptime baseline, coordinate global workflows, and configure automation frameworks that safeguard critical financial workloads.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer, install, configure, patch, and upgrade core IWS infrastructure elements including Master Domain Managers, Dynamic Pools, and the Dynamic Workload Console.

• Orchestrate production job promotions using Workload Application Template-based mechanisms, enforcing strict environment standards across four isolated change control stages.

• Monitor scheduler health, drive monthly platform failovers, perform database maintenance tasks, and build out automated backup/disaster recovery strategies.

• Diagnose and resolve high-severity batch failures, platform bottlenecks, and agent communication dropouts by analyzing stdlist logs and tuning trace scopes.

• Build Ansible automation scripts and self-healing configurations to minimize unplanned infrastructure outages and reduce manual engineering interventions.

• Act as the principal advisor on complex scheduling architectures for a community of ~500 developers and data engineers, while coordinating off-hours support coverage with offshore teams.
