Position Overview:
Responsible for the repair and maintenance of building equipment and machinery as required to maintain functioning building/s or facilities. May supervise contractors or directly fabricate and install HVAC Components as needed per each work task and project. Will ensure appropriate licensure is documented on all work performed either directly under the supervision of a Master HVAC Technician or through an appropriately licensed Contractor. Will ensure quality work is performed on all buildings and job sites.
Job Duties:
- Performs general repairs and maintains equipment and machinery by troubleshooting and diagnosing special
- service problems in accordance with instructions, blueprints, manuals, and all building codes.
- Estimates cost factors for labor and material, and determines requirements and plans for fabricating, installing,
- testing, start-up, and servicing HVAC equipment.
- May be required to drive a personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
- Assists and trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to drive personal or county vehicles to various work sites.
- Required to climb ladders periodically to access building roofs.
- Subject to working early morning, evening, weekend, and emergency events as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Will be required to be on call after hours as part of a weekly rotation.

- High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years as an air conditioning mechanic or technician with hands-on experience in various aspects of mechanical installation and repair in commercial and/or industrial facilities.
Licensure:
- Universal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Good understanding of electrical, ductwork, piping, and controls.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner.
- Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in maintenance engineering trades, and display mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to maintain courteous, helpful behavior always.
- Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
- Ability to receive CJIS clearance, pass a security check, and a drug test, as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Emergency Deployment & Continuity of Operations Requirement:
In accordance with Harris County’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Policy, this position is subject to emergency response and deployment protocols. The employee may be designated as supporting a Mission Essential Function (MEF) and must:
- Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
- Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
- Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
- Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support County operations continuity.

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Salary: Commensurate experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
