Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Engineer / Facilities Technician

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on GMP process equipment, utilities, and facility systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems, including RTUs, split systems, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform basic to intermediate electrical work, including 220V wiring, panel troubleshooting, and equipment connections.
  • Support general facilities maintenance, including boilers, chillers, compressors, and utility systems.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, breakdowns, and urgent facilities issues to minimize downtime.
  • Provide on-call support as required.
  • Perform maintenance within cleanroom and GMP environments, following all safety and compliance requirements.
  • Support maintenance on complex manufacturing systems such as isolators, HEPA filtration systems, and environmental control equipment.
  • Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification activities under GMP guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities in a CMMS.
  • Support Quality investigations, Change Controls, and CAPAs as required.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to schedule maintenance and repairs.
  • Order parts and manage spare inventory to support maintenance operations.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Facilities teams to address technical issues.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of facilities maintenance experience in a regulated or GMP-adjacent environment. (Previous GMP exp is a MUST HAVE)
  • Experience with HVAC systems (RTUs, split systems, refrigeration).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of complex systems.
  • Ability to perform electrical work, including 220V wiring.
  • Comfortable working hands-on across multiple trades (HVAC, electrical, mechanical).
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Willingness to work on a wide variety of systems beyond primary specialty.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • HVAC experience required; electrical certification preferred.
  • Exposure to cell therapy, biotech, or GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrates integrity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

Work Environment

The position is based in a South San Francisco manufacturing facility, operating Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with some rotational on-call work. The role involves hands-on work in a regulated GMP environment, requiring flexibility to support a wide range of systems and equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South San Francisco, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
