HVAC Drafter

Location: Farmingdale, NY

Salary: Up to $90,000

3D drafting experience required

A well-established HVAC firm located in Farmingdale, NY is seeking an experienced HVAC Drafter to join their team. This role involves creating detailed technical drawings and plans for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The drafter will work closely with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals to transform specifications and concepts into precise CAD drawings for construction and installation.

Responsibilities:

  • Create accurate HVAC layouts, including ductwork, piping, and equipment plans, using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software
  • Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and relevant building codes
  • Develop simple 3D models of HVAC duct and piping systems using AutoCAD MEP and Revit
  • Update 2D drawings to 3D formats for enhanced visualization and coordination
  • Provide 3D layout support to identify spatial conflicts and improve design accuracy
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to meet design intent and project goals
  • Revise drawings based on markups, field changes, and updated requirements
  • Assist with load calculations, equipment selection, and basic HVAC design tasks
  • Maintain compliance with drawing standards and applicable codes
  • Organize and manage project documentation and drawing files

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, mechanical design, or a related field
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other HVAC-related design software
  • Solid understanding of HVAC systems and terminology
  • Knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and construction documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years in HVAC drafting or mechanical drafting roles
  • Experience with commercial, residential, or industrial HVAC projects
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflows
