Class Summary
Gwinnett County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of HVAC Controls Technician (Tech and Senior levels) to support a 24/7 detention facility. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing HVAC and Building Automation Systems (BAS) that are critical to facility operations.
Job Description
The HVAC Controls Technician performs installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HVAC systems and building automation control systems. The HVAC Controls Technician Senior performs advanced diagnostics, investigates system malfunctions, determines root causes, and implements effective solutions. This position may serve as a lead to staff and coordinate work with contractors.
Essential Duties- Serving as a lead to staff, including training, assigning, monitoring work, and providing technical guidance
- Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Investigating equipment and system failures, determining root causes, and performing efficient repairs
- Designing, fabricating, and installing customized HVAC solutions as needed
- Monitoring and adjusting BAS systems to optimize performance and efficiency
- Coordinating with contractors for installations, maintenance, and repairs
- Performing preventative maintenance across all HVAC system levels
- Responding to emergency HVAC calls in a timely manner
- Researching and recommending new technologies and equipment
- Maintaining records, reports, and assist with budget input
- Managing inventory of HVAC equipment and materials
Other Job Requirements/Information- Pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- Public safety background investigation which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, credit check, and fingerprinting.
- On-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
GradeThe grade for this position is B25(3) and C41(3). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- HVAC Tech B25(3) - $63,017 - $100,827
- High School Diploma or GED
- Four years of progressively responsible residential and commercial experience
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Georgia State Conditioned Air Contractor Class I (restricted) license
- Valid Driver's License
- HVAC Tech Sr. C41(3) - $68,534 - $113,081
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six years of progressively responsible residential and commercial experience
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Georgia State Conditioned Air Contractor Class II (unrestricted) license
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) (Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, etc.)
- Experience with controls troubleshooting and system integration
- Experience working in large or complex facilities (institutional, government, healthcare, or industrial)
- Ability to work independently and respond to critical system issues
