Position Overview

One of our clients is seeking a HR Manager that is an experienced human resources professional who serves as a trusted partner to leadership and employees across multiple locations. This role oversees the full scope of HR operations, including employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, workers’ compensation, and HR systems. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with strong judgment, broad HR expertise, and a passion for fostering a positive, compliant, and high-performing workplace. This position also leads and develops a team of HR administrators while ensuring consistent application of policies, practices, and standards across the organization.


Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and wellness initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations such as ERISA, COBRA, and ACA
  • Act as the primary resource for employee benefits inquiries and communications
  • Analyze benefits utilization and employee feedback to recommend improvements
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate service performance
  • Partner with finance and operations to manage budgets and ensure cost efficiency

Payroll & Leave Administration

  • Support payroll processes in partnership with finance to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Administer leave programs including FMLA, ADA, and other leave of absence policies

Employee Relations

  • Serve as the primary HR partner to leadership on employee relations matters
  • Lead and document investigations, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes
  • Provide guidance on performance management, coaching, and corrective actions
  • Partner with leadership on conflict resolution and policy interpretation
  • Identify trends and proactively recommend solutions to improve the work environment

Workers’ Compensation

  • Manage the full workers’ compensation process from incident reporting through claim resolution
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, medical providers, and employees
  • Track claims, return-to-work programs, and modified duty assignments
  • Analyze injury trends and partner with leadership on safety initiatives

Compliance & Policy Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain and update HR policies and procedures to align with current requirements
  • Conduct audits and implement corrective actions as needed

Unemployment Management

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for unemployment claims and hearings
  • Prepare documentation, respond to claims, and represent the organization in hearings
  • Track outcomes and recommend strategies to mitigate risk and reduce liability

HR Systems & Data Management

  • Act as the primary administrator for HR systems, including document management and service delivery tools
  • Maintain workflows, case management, and data integrity within HR platforms
  • Train HR team members and managers on system usage and best practices
  • Partner with IT to troubleshoot issues and manage system updates

HR Projects & Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead HR projects from planning through execution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership on initiatives that impact employee experience
  • Support rollout of new programs, policies, and technologies
  • Track and report on HR metrics and project outcomes

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of HR administrators
  • Ensure consistent execution of HR practices across all locations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including strong exposure to benefits administration
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-state organizations preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms (UKG or similar preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution
  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills


This is a full-time, direct-hire, fully onsite position in Ann Arbor, MI
