We’re looking for a hands-on HR Manager / Senior HR Generalist to step into a highly visible role supporting a fast-paced, blue-collar environment. This is an in-office role for someone who enjoys being in the details, owns benefits and leaves in-house, and is comfortable operating without a plug-and-play HR playbook.
This role is intentionally flexible and will evolve around the strengths of the first senior HR hire.
What You’ll Own:
Core HR / Generalist Support
- Serve as a hands-on HR partner supporting ~600 employees
- Operate comfortably “in the weeds” in a high-volume, operational environment
- Apply strong working knowledge of California HR fundamentals (wage & hour, LOAs, compliance basics)
- Understand HR team structure, capacity planning, and employee-to-HR ratios
Benefits Administration (Critical)
- Own end-to-end benefits administration in-house
- Hands-on experience with:
- EDI feeds (setup, testing, troubleshooting)
- Carrier setup, transitions, and renewals
- Medical billing and invoice reconciliation (auditing, not just payment)
- Identify discrepancies and partner with carriers to resolve issues
- Advanced Excel skills required (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)
- Experience with electronic benefits platforms (no paper enrollments)
Leaves of Absence (Managed In-House)
- Working knowledge of California Leaves of Absence
- Directly manage high LOA volume, including seasonal spikes
- Own LOA forms, timing, and compliance tracking
- Escalate complex cases appropriately while handling day-to-day LOAs independently
- Experience managing long-term leaves (12+ months)
Recruiting Exposure (Not a Recruiter Role)
- Exposure to full-cycle recruiting preferred, including:
- Market and compensation analysis
- Job descriptions
- Phone screens and interviews
- Must have “touched” recruiting as part of an HR role
- Recruiting is a shared responsibility (no dedicated recruiter)
Environment & Culture Fit
- Construction experience strongly preferred
- Manufacturing experience considered transferable
Comfortable in:
- Fast-paced, high-volume environments
- Mass hiring cycles and occasional layoffs
- Thick-skinned, pragmatic, and not easily offended
- Comfortable working with candid, direct managers
- Relationship-driven and trusted by leadership
- Flexible, adaptable, and not clock-watching
