Overview A Northbrook-based investment management firm is looking for a Director of Human Resources to serve as both a strategic and hands-on people leader. This person will partner closely with senior leadership to build and execute people strategies that support the firm's business goals, drive organizational effectiveness, and foster a high-performing culture. The Director will oversee one HR Generalist and manage external vendor and consultant relationships as needed.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Partner with senior leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent development strategies
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives, using data and insights to identify trends, flag risks, and inform people decisions
  • Own and continuously improve HR frameworks for performance management, career pathing, and goal setting
  • Guide compensation planning and benefits strategy to attract, engage, and retain top talent
  • Address employee relations matters with empathy, discretion, and sound business judgment
  • Oversee HR compliance, policies, systems, and documentation to ensure operational excellence
  • Supervise and develop the HR Generalist to support smooth execution of HR programs
  • Manage relationships with external consultants and legal counsel for specialized needs such as investigations and compliance


What They're Looking For

  • 6–10 years of progressive HR experience, including strategic HR leadership and executive-level collaboration
  • Strong generalist foundation with demonstrated success in performance management, compensation, and employee relations
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable people systems in a fast-paced or high-growth environment
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate workforce insights into actionable recommendations
  • Exceptional communication and coaching skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • High integrity, strong emotional intelligence, and sound business judgment
  • Deep knowledge of employment law, compensation practices, and HR operations
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms and reporting tools
