Job Title: HSE Specialist I (Wind – Project Continuity Opportunity)

Location: Modesto, IL → Remington, IN

Position Type: Contract

Overview

ISS is seeking an HSE Specialist I to support a wind project in Modesto, IL, with the opportunity to transition directly into a follow-on project in Remington, IN.

This role will support the final commissioning phase of an active wind project, working closely with turbine technicians to ensure safe completion and turnover to operations. Following project completion, the consultant will have the opportunity to mobilize to a new project site in Indiana, providing continuity of work.

The ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starting safety professional with wind experience who is eager to learn, adapt, and grow within a dynamic project environment.

Project Details – Phase 1 (Illinois)

  • Project Name: Lotus
  • Location: Modesto, IL
  • Project Phase: Final Commissioning / Turnover
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: ~1 month
  • Schedule:5–6 days per week
  • 10–12 hour shifts

Project Details – Phase 2 (Indiana)

  • Location: Remington, IN
  • Project Type: New project startup
  • Transition: Opportunity to roll directly onto new project following Illinois completion
  • GWO Requirement:Not required for Illinois project
  • Required prior to Indiana project (time will be provided to obtain certification)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily HSE support during final commissioning activities
  • Work closely with Vestas technicians to ensure safe work practices
  • Monitor jobsite activities for compliance with safety standards and procedures
  • Support hazard identification and implement corrective actions
  • Assist with incident prevention, reporting, and documentation
  • Utilize safety reporting systems (Sphera) for tracking and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with site leadership and field teams
  • Support a proactive and solution-oriented safety culture

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supporting wind energy projects
  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and procedures
  • Ability to operate independently in a field-based environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel and transition between project sites

Required Certifications (for Indiana Project)

  • GWO BST (Basic Safety Training)
  • Advanced Rescue Training (ART)
  • First Aid / CPR
  • Manual Handling

(GWO certification is not required to start but must be obtained prior to transition to the Indiana project.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting commissioning or startup phases of wind projects
  • Familiarity with turbine technician workflows
  • Experience using safety reporting systems (e.g., Sphera)

Work Environment

  • ~75% field / 25% administrative
  • Active wind project environment
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions and elevated work areas

  • Construction Manager: Dale Pfarr
  • Responsible for time and expense approval

Additional Requirements

  • Must be a self-starter with a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment
  • Ability to work extended hours and variable schedules

  • Hard hat
  • High-visibility vest
  • Climbing gear

Transportation

  • No company vehicle provided
  • Standard construction site vehicle use (personal transportation required)
