The City of Indio Internship Program is a continuous, as needed, opportunity for both highly motivated and aspiring undergraduate, graduate and doctorate Interns. This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain paid experience and on-the-job training at a government entity.
As one of the largest employers in the Coachella Valley, the City of Indio offers potential Interns the opportunity to work in a variety of fields across our departments.
The City of Indio Internship Program will give candidates the opportunity to develop in areas such as skills, personal development and life experiences guided by an assigned mentor.Applicants get the opportunity to learn and develop skills in the below areas:
  • Performs technical, paraprofessional work in the Housing Division of Community Development, including collecting and tabulating program data; coordinates with public agencies to gather relevant information. Prepares agreements, purchase orders, and spreadsheets.
  • Receives, reviews, and processes a variety of applications for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and determines eligibility for housing program applicants; explains how to correct deficiencies in applications; reviews administrative applications and makes recommendations.
  • Administers outside contracts and grant-funded proposals, ensuring compliance with the requirements of the funding agency.
  • Assists the public and consultants in person or via telephone; provides general housing information on department/City policies and procedures as assigned.
  • Assists in the coordination and monitoring of assigned program budgets and expenditure projections; prepares loan and real estate escrow documents; reconciles monthly escrow reports; verifies payment draws for accuracy; and prepares and processes purchase orders for payment in accordance with purchasing guidelines and standards.
OTHER DUTIES THAT MAY BE INCLUDED:
  • Organizes and maintains department records, files, and reference materials; gathers, researches, and assembles information and data for reports and studies; prepares and processes legal notices; composes a variety of documents, including letters, reports, and memos.
  • Pays incoming invoices using the City's financial software; processes time sheets and prepares timecards; assists the Community Development Department, as needed, by answering phones and assisting customers at the front counter.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state and local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. A completed online application must be submitted along with completion of the supplemental questionnaire.
  2. A cover letter, resume, and copy of latest school transcripts must be attached to application.
  3. The Internship Program is open only to currently enrolled students either pursuing an Associates, Undergraduate, Graduate, or Doctorate degree. A student may either be attending school on a full-time or part-time status.
  4. No less than an overall C (2.0) grade point average (GPA).
  5. Must pass a criminal background screening
  6. Possession of a Class C California driver's license is required.
