JOB TITLE:  

Makerspace Outreach Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:  

Under the direction of the Makerspace Coordinator, the Makerspace Outreach Specialist (MOS) will support summer programming and daily operations within the Innovation Wyrkshop.

This position will play a key role in developing and delivering hands-on educational experiences for K–12 students, while also supporting general community members, university students, and visitors utilizing the makerspace. The MOS will lead and assist with summer camps, facilitate workshops, and provide guidance to patrons using makerspace tools and technologies.

This role is primarily teaching-focused and emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning through active engagement in the Innovation Wyrkshop.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and facilitate summer camps and hands-on programming for K–12 students.
  • Lead small group instruction, workshops, and activities within the Innovation Wyrkshop.
  • Assist patrons including K–12 students, university students, and community members with projects, tools, and general makerspace use.
  • Provide guidance and basic troubleshooting support for makerspace equipment, including 3D printers.
  • Support day-to-day makerspace operations, including organization, setup, and general upkeep.
  • Assist with basic machine maintenance as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan, implement, and improve programming and events.
  • Help coordinate and support events, tours, and group visits.
  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for all users.
  • Promote makerspace resources and opportunities through interaction and outreach.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to support program goals and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Interest in education, makerspaces, or hands-on learning environments
  • Experience working with or teaching K–12 students
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in an accessible and engaging way
  • Experience with or willingness to learn makerspace equipment, including 3D printing
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to learn

WORK LOCATION:  

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
