Hospital-Central Monitor Technician (Part-Time; Day Shift)

Under limited supervision, the Central Monitor Technician (CMT) is responsible for performing accurate EKG rhythm interpretation, documentation and support of the interdisciplinary health care team in delivering high quality, cost-effective care. This position maintains competency in electrocardiography (EKG), monitoring/computer skills, and pulse oximetry (SpO2) as appropriate. The CMT documents timely and accurately, and employs effective, prompt, direct communication when escalating concerns.
  • Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner.
  • CMT will accurately identify changes or abnormalities in EKG morphology and arrythmia identification and will take corrective action and/or escalate/communicate immediately to proper personnel.
  • Utilizes chain of command to escalate issues and advocates for patients and staff to provide for safe delivery of care and a safe environment of care.
  • Monitor techs will be knowledgeable of correct operation of monitors, telemetry, transmitters, fax machine and other pieces of equipment necessary to perform their job responsibilities. Proficient with communication devices, such as telephone, Vocera.
  • Monitor tech correctly uses communication systems to notify nurses of arrythmias and abnormal rhythms and documents accordingly.
  • Ensures all telemetry equipment is in safe working order prior to use and documents findings accordingly; calls for service if needed.
  • Acts as a liaison through effective and professional communication between nursing and other support services as appropriate.
  • Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly to improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities and contributes to meeting department and hospital key performance targets for quality and safety.
  • Actively participates and supports quality assurance and improvement programs, department projects, and shared governance activities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Two (2) years Central Telemetry Monitoring experience OR one (1) year EMT experience required.
