Title: Histology Technician

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Important Note
- This role begins as a Laboratory Support/Assistant position.
- You will not immediately perform core necropsy/histology work.
- After approximately 5–6 months of training, there is transition into a Technician (Prosector) role based on performance, training progress, and team needs.
Job Summary
Under supervision, the Laboratory Assistant will support general laboratory operations and assist technical personnel with routine tasks. This role ensures that laboratory facilities, equipment, and processes meet established standards, contributing to the accuracy and integrity of scientific research.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up before, provide prosectors with support during, and help clean up after necropsies.
- Provide necropsy and histology lab support including but not limited to changing solutions, printing slides/cassettes, running the slide staining machine and other equipment, weighing tissues, unpacking and preparing specimens for shipment, etc.
- Euthanize laboratory animals to help ensure the humane treatment of animals.
- Observe and record data such as weights and physical characteristics of laboratory animals in accordance with Laboratory standards.
- Observe and record facility and equipment measurements such as weights and temperatures in accordance with Laboratory standards to help ensure the validity and integrity of experimental results.
- Work as a member of a team toward timely, efficient, accurate and precise production of histological slides for examination by the pathologist.
- If workload and performance allow, this could include embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
- Operate, clean/maintain facilities and equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Order, receive, decontaminate, and store equipment and other consumables; stock cabinets in order to help ensure efficiency of laboratory operations.
- Provide general assistance toward laboratory operations such as preparation of reagents and solutions, and disposal of biological and/or chemical waste in order to help ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently.
- Adhere to EPA regulations, protocols, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Laboratory Practices.
After 6 Months
Based on training progress, performance, and interest, this role may evolve into a Necropsy/Histology Technician (Prosector) position involving:
- Performing routine and specialized rodent necropsies (autopsies)
- Conducting histology procedures
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Biology, Animal Sciences preferred)
- OR High School Diploma + 5 years of relevant experience
- Recent graduates with laboratory experience are encouraged to apply
- Rodent/mouse handling experience is preferred but not required

Work Conditions
- Must be comfortable handling laboratory animals

- No weekend work required while in assistant role
