Job SummaryFull Time Days
The Histotechnologist will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. This may include logging, batching, and cutting, mounting, and staining procedures. Tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the standards required. Will provide supervision and technical direction to Histology Technician.
Responsibilities
Prepares microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic/research purposes, performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis, handles specimen accessioning, and maintains laboratory and equipment. Also, may be involved in supervision of the daily operations of the department, supervising staff, assisting in selection of personnel, and making recommendations on hiring, firing and discipline. Reviews quality control, and performs operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of histology instruments and equipment.
QualificationsEducation
Required: Bachelor’s degree in histology or related science
Experience
Required: 0 to 1 year Histotechnologist
Certifications
Required: Registered Histotechnologist (ASCP or equivalent) or be eligible for such registration within 1 year of hire
