Job Title: Janitorial Worker

Job Description

This Janitorial Worker role focuses on delivering a high-quality cleaning and hygiene service in a hospital setting. You help create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment by maintaining cleanliness in patient areas, public spaces, and support areas. This position offers the opportunity to work with purpose, support patient care through environmental services, and grow within a state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities

  • Clean offices, patient and resident rooms, dorms, classrooms, common areas, lavatories, halls, food service areas, and other assigned spaces to maintain a sanitary and orderly environment.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and polish floors, and vacuum hallways, stairs, and office spaces to meet cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform hard-surface floor care, including scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing, as well as carpet spotting and extraction, using mechanical equipment when required.
  • Support the maintenance of wood floors, such as in gymnasiums or similar areas, including cleaning, screening, stripping, sanding, and refinishing as needed.
  • Clean light fixtures, ceilings, vents, walls, mattresses, furniture, windows, and window coverings to ensure a thorough level of cleanliness.
  • Use cleaning chemicals properly and safely according to manufacturer instructions and established standards.
  • Empty trash and garbage containers and ensure waste is handled and removed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Replenish supplies and materials, such as paper products, soap, and other consumables, to keep areas fully stocked.
  • Change sheets and replenish linens as needed to support patient and resident comfort.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and make minor repairs when required to keep cleaning tools and machinery in good working order.
  • Move furniture and set up tables and chairs for events, meetings, or room reconfigurations.
  • Operate a golf cart or other facility vehicles if needed for transporting materials or equipment.
  • Notify the supervisor promptly regarding any maintenance issues, damage, or repair needs observed during cleaning duties.
  • Comply with all safety and risk management policies and procedures at all times.
  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training sessions, and hazard assessments.
  • Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work tasks and cleaning processes.
  • 2 shifts available - (3pm-11:30pm) OR (11pm-7:30 am), including evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as business needs dictate.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in cleaning, janitorial, or custodial work in environments such as hospitals, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
  • Ability to perform sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, vacuuming, and other floor care tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Capability to use mechanical floor care equipment for scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, carpet spotting, and extraction.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and proper use of cleaning chemicals according to established standards.
  • Ability to follow safety and risk management procedures, including OSHA and related local safety requirements.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move furniture and equipment as part of daily duties.
  • Reliability to work 3rd shift hours (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.) and maintain consistent attendance, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high standards of cleanliness in patient care and public areas.
  • Effective communication skills to report maintenance needs, incidents, and safety concerns promptly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in roles such as waitress, server, bartender, home health aide, janitor, or custodian, demonstrating strong customer service and reliability.
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with a team in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting.
  • Willingness to learn and follow established cleaning protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate small vehicles, such as a golf cart, if required by the facility.

Work Environment

This role is based in a hospital environment, where cleanliness, safety, and infection control are top priorities. The position involves frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting, as well as regular use of cleaning chemicals and mechanical floor care equipment. The dress code requires black pants (no denim, sweatpants, yoga pants, or spandex), black slip-resistant shoes, and black socks. Hair must be a natural color. A uniform shirt is provided. You work both independently and as part of a team in a professional, patient-focused setting where adherence to safety and cleanliness standards is essential.

This is a Contract position based out of Lancaster, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.19 - $18.19/hr.
