About Maaribu
Maaribu Cafe & Gifts is a cafe and retail shop located on South 1st Street in Austin. We offer gluten-free baked goods, coffee, light bites, and curated gifts in a community-oriented space. As part of the Maaribu brand, focused on home design and intentional living, we emphasize high-quality ingredients and customer service. We are expanding operations and seeking an experienced manager to lead the cafe.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Food & Beverage Manager to oversee cafe and bakery operations. This hands-on position requires experience in coffee shop and/or bakery management, with responsibilities for daily operations, team leadership, guest service, and business development, including wholesale accounts. The role supports planned growth, including potential additional locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily cafe and bakery operations, including food preparation, service standards, and quality control, with emphasis on gluten-free products
- Manage inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and cost controls to support profitability and product quality
- Handle team scheduling, training, and performance management for baristas, bakers, and front-of-house staff
- Identify and develop wholesale accounts (e.g., local businesses, events, retailers) to expand gluten-free product distribution
- Develop and introduce new menu items and seasonal offerings
- Plan and manage promotional events
- Establish and track sales goals and manage the cafe and bakery budget
- Provide quarterly costing reports for cafe and bakery items to the Executive Team
- Participate in strategic growth planning
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards while maintaining brand service standards
Requirements
- 5+ years of food & beverage management experience, preferably in coffee shops, independent bakeries, or specialty coffee settings
- Proven skills in inventory management, ordering, scheduling, P&L responsibility, and team supervision
- Demonstrated success in building wholesale or B2B accounts and supporting business growth
- 2 years baking experience, 1 year barista experience
- Interest in gluten-free baking, quality ingredients, specialty coffee, and customer service
- Proficiency with POS systems, Google Suite, and financial reporting
- Valid manager food safety certificate and TBAC certification
- Open availability including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
