Salary: $32.80/hr. to $37.00/hr. (dependent on experience)
Schedule: 4-10's or 5x8's (depending on department need)

Focus: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operation of various types of heavy-duty equipment to perform road and grounds maintenance, excavations, and mobile crane operations.

Heavy Duty Equipment Operator Job Functions:

  • Operate heavy equipment and cranes to lift, move and position machinery, materials, and large components.
  • Load, transport, and unload equipment and materials across work sites, docks, and storage areas.
  • Support maintenance and repair activities by assisting crafts with rigging, excavation, and equipment handling.
  • Ensure safe and compliant operations by following regulations, maintaining equipment, and completing required documentation.

Heavy Duty Equipment Operator Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least three years of relevant experience of operating heavy equipment; previous experience moving heavy machinery/equipment preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete specific environmental training and testing. Including hazardous waste handling, OSHA compliance, emergency response (RCRA), respiratory training, and become State Certified by MDNR as a certified Sollid Waste Technician.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain a government driver's license.
  • Ability and willingness to work Weekends, including overtime.

Location-Specific Requirements:

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. To meet the government-facility requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen.
