Compensation and Benefits:

Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $50,376.00 - $57,573.00 Full Salary Range: $43,755.00 - $78,299.00 Annually

Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 6:15 am - 4:45 pm (10 hr shifts)


About the Department:

The Water Resources Operations Division is responsible for maintaining Greensboro’s water and sewer infrastructure. This team works in the field every day to prevent overflows, respond to emergencies, and ensure systems operate safely and efficiently for the entire community.

About the Role:

The Heavy Equipment Operator performs preventative and emergency maintenance on the City’s sanitary sewer system and supports the operation and upkeep of associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment to perform maintenance and repairs on the sanitary sewer system
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and respond to emergency sewer system issues
  • Complete daily work logs, sanitary sewer overflow reports, and required internal and state documentation
  • Direct and support the activities of assigned helpers or crew members
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and ensure proper operation
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements during field operations
  • Respond to after-hours calls as part of an on-call rotation

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/ GED,
    • "OR" 3 years of education + 4 years of directly related experience operating Heavy Equipment (Combo Cleaning Trucks, Rodder Trucks, etc.)
  • Valid Class A Drivers' License with Tanker Endorsement
  • Forklift License ("OR" obtain within six months of hire date)
  • 1+ years of experience operating Heavy Equipment (Combo Cleaning Trucks, Rodder Trucks, etc.)

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Prior Leadership Experience
  • NC AWWA Grade 2 or higher Collections Certification
