GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

You will serve as a Health Facility Surveyor with the Health Care Surveillance Branch, Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, Wyoming Department of Health, conducting surveys and investigating complaints statewide according to Wyoming State Statutes agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Performsstandardandabbreviatedsurveyssuchasinitiallicensureandcertificationsurveys,recertificationsurveys, complaint investigations, and follow-up surveys.
  • Ensure the survey process is implemented correctly and efficiently.
  • Interprets regulations and guidance from the State Operations Manual and other federal/state guidelines. Performs complaint intakes and assesses and documents regulatory problems.
  • Determines regulatory category for complaint allegations.
  • Report findings to the Team Coordinator or, when working independently, to the Supervisor. Evaluate plans of correction and communicate approval or concerns to facility leadership.
  • Provides oral or written technical assistance to a variety of healthcare provider types.
  • Participates in in-service education, as well as other educational opportunities related to the survey process.
  • Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites.

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference may be given to registered nurses, registered dietitians, social workers, medical technologists, and occupational, physical or respiratory therapists.

Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in a nursing home, hospital, laboratory, home health agency, hospice, ambulatory surgical center, or dialysis facility.

**Agency requires the successful applicant to be licensed by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.

**Agency requires completing the CMS Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within 6 months of employment.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledgeofhealthcarestandards,medicalconditions(acuteandchronic),medicalprocedures,mentalhealth needs, and quality of life.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for certifying and licensing healthcare facilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Healthcare)Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically inHealthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program SpecialistOREducation & ExperienceSubstitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program SpecialistCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Extensive state-wide travel to and from survey sites.
  • This position will be located in Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park, or Washakie County and will require working from a home office.


NOTES:


  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Wyoming Department of Health is an E-Verify employer
  • Flexible/Hybrid. This position will require working from home (except in Laramie County).
  • Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
    • Temporary employees are accepting a full-time position.

    • Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.

    • One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, funds will be recouped from final pay.

    • Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.

    • Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.

    • If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
